An I.V Sasi film is eagerly waited for and if it is a film with Mohanlal, the excitement is bound to be higher. After Devasuram Sasi and Mohanlal have come together in Sradha. The film has all the ingredients of box office appeal - an upright, daring police officer, hard-core terrorists, four leading actresses, action, suspense, songs, dances etc.
Sradha is the story of Ganga Prasad IPS (Mohanlal), a daring officer of the Anti Terrorist Wing of the State Police. Into his small world consisting of wife, Suma (Shobana) and son Abi enters Swapna(Abhirami) who sees her dream man in him and falls head over heels in love with him, even overlooking the fact that he is married. In the meantime, a group of hard-core terrorists led by Lucifer Munna (Arun Pandiyan) and Janisha (Rasika) wreak havoc at various places. Our hero naturally, clashes with them. Then on there is hot chase, kidnapping, arrests, questioning et al, leading to a climax with lot of action.
The weakness of the film is its meandering script (by T Damodaran and Rajendra Prasad). While the main track of the story is terrorists and terrorism, there is the obsession of Swapna on one hand and on the other hand, there is the story of the issueless couple, Dr Balachandran and Nalini. However, all these are carried on together with an ease that is typical of I V Sasi. He also makes it a point to restrain Swapna's character by making her realize the problems that she is creating in the hero’s married life.
Mohanlal carries the role of Ganga Prasad with his usual characteristic ease while Rasika, Seema and Arun Pandiyan excel in their respective roles. Shobhana, who has made a comeback after a considerable gap, hasn't got much to do while Abhirami is OK. Jayanan Vincent's cinematography, editing by Murali Narayanan and art direction by C K Suresh and Shashi Perumanoor are the highlights of the film. Gireesh Puthencherry’s songs set to tune by Bharadwaj have a Tamil flavour. With so many characters moving in and out of the frames and so many tracks of the plot moving simultaneously, Sradha is a typical I V Sasi film.
