Priyadarshan with Amal Neerad-Mohanlal movie 'Dhanushkodi'

First of all, everyone should understand that this latest news hearing from the Malayalam film industry is not at all a confirmed one, it may just be a rumoured one. This new sensational news tells us that one of the most stylish director in Mollywood, Amal Neerad is all set to do a new Malayalam film, Dhanushkodi with our Universal star Mohanlal in the lead.

Earlier in 1988, Priyadarshan has started shooting for a Malayalam film with this title, under the script of T Damodaran featuring Mohanlal and 'Vandanam' fame Girija Shettar in the lead, but due to some unknown issues it got shelved and now Priyadarshan had decided to restart his old project with some changes that suits current generation viewers.

Even though, this Malayalam movie Dhanushkodi was a dream project of Priyadarshan, this time around he won't direct it, but will do only the scripting. Plan for the restart of this once shelved project kick started at the set of new Mohanlal movie Arabiyum Ottakavum P madhavan Nairum, being directed by Priyadarshan.

As per the reports, this new Mohanlal movie Dhanushkodi is all set to start by the next year, once Mohanlal completes his current commitments and will surely be one of the hugely anticipated film for the year 2012. It's also hearing that this new film may have Dhanushkodi, Srilanka and Rameshwaram as it's location.

Waiting for the confirmed news about this new Mohanlal-Priyadarshan-Amal Neerad movie...

Ranjith and Mohanlal together again

Ace director Ranjith and Mohanlal seems to have settled whatever differences of opinion they have had.

The two extremely talented men are coming together for a movie after a long while, in which Mohanlal would play a Christian character.

The film would be based on a short story by the name of 'Leela', written by Unni R. Ranjith himself would script the film.

Mohanlal would play a man with strange sexual fantasies in the film. No doubt, this would be another landmark in the actor's eventful career.

Mohanlal - Most Popular Keralite 2011 Survey By Deccan Chronicle

The youth of Kerala may prefer oldies to make way for the younger lot in politics, but in films they still dote on two middle-aged superstars — Mohanlal and Mammootty.

Mohanlal - 29%
Mammootty - 23%
Prithviraj - 20%
Dileep - 5%
Jayaram - 4%
Asif Ali - 2%
Kunchacko, Vineeth Srinivasan etc - 1%

These two stars, who have been ruling the roost from the mid-1980s are the heartthrobs of the new generation too, according to the Deccan Chronicle C-fore survey conducted among youth aged from 18 to 25.

And among the two ‘Big Ms,’ Mohanlal has an edge over Mammootty with 29 per cent of the youth terming him the most popular actor. Mammootty comes next with 23 per cent plumping for him.
Among Mohanlal fans, the majority are males (38 percent) and females constitute only a moderate chunk (19 per cent) in comparison.

At the same time, adorers of Mammootty are almost equally matched in gender with males comprising 24 per cent and females 22 percent. This jells with a popular survey held two years ago in which women voted Mammootty as the sexiest star of Kerala.

Among the young crowd, only Prithviraj is able to more or less match the two ageing superstars with 20 per cent of the respondents cheering for him. Of this, only 10 per cent are men and 30 per cent are women, understandably so.

The middle-level actors get ‘moderate’ approval with 5 per cent endorsing Dileep and four per cent choosing Jayaram.

The outspoken Thilakan, who took out a fight with the superstars last year, also gets the approval of five per cent.

Interestingly, the new crop of actors — Kunjacko Boban, Jayasurya, Kailash, Ajmal Ameer and Vineeth Sreenivasan — get lukewarm response from the youth. Only one per cent of respondents felt enthusiastic about them. Asif Ali is slightly better at two per cent but that is no consolation.

“The Kerala youth identify with younger stars of Bollywood and not those of Malayalam films,” said the well-known film critic, Mr C.S. Venkiteswaran.

“They don’t think the younger stars of Kerala are hep enough.”

Mr Venkiteswaran also felt that the popularity of Mammootty and Mohanlal among the youth had more to do with their absolute dominance of television which created the ambience for film viewing. “The young actors are not getting the space they deserve because of this,” he said.

Christian Brothers Movie Review

Four stylish heroes who play with guns as if they are toys, match steps with their pretty arm candies at will, churn out rhyming dialogues without batting an eyelid and take on a dozen armed goons without sweating much.

Then, loads of family sentiments, twists and turns to thrill and song ‘n’ dance routines. Well, director Joshiy's Christian Brothers have everything that one usually associates with mass a masala entertainer.

Christie (Mohanlal), Jojy (Dileep), Jessy (Lakshmi Gopalaswamy) and Stella (Kaniha) belong to the wealthy Palamattam Tharavadu. Their dad Capt. Varghese Mappilai (Sai Kumar) had pinned great hopes on his two sons, but both of them didn't live up to his expectations.

Christie became a high profile police informer based in Mumbai, after some disturbing incidents that happened in his life. Jojy had gone to Italy to become a priest but opted out of it, after falling in love with Meenakshi (Kavya Madhavan), the daughter of the state home minister.

The issues start with the murder of Kochuthoma (Jagathy Sreekumar), an honest village officer, after he refuses to agree to allow some murky land deals. The bad brigade is led by Thampy (Vijayraghavan) and his sons, one of whom is an IPS officer (Biju Menon). Sometime later Christie comes to Kerala to save Meenakshi, who is kidnapped on her way back from London. Things get more intriguing from then on and new characters are introduced one after the other.

At almost three hours, Christian Brothers is tad too long but script writers Siby K Thomas and Udayakrishna have handled a complex theme with some panache. It is never easy to script a multi-starrer giving importance to every hero but they have done just that, quite the way they wrote the block buster hit Twenty 20.

Veteran director Joshiy has done a fine job in keeping the viewers glued on to the screen, as the heroes virtually go on a rampage. The storyline would remind you of some of the old Hindi or Tamil hits, where the plot is all about the antics of the hero and nothing else. Anil Nair's visuals are good and Deepak Dev's music goes in sync with the mood.

Mohanlal, who is perhaps playing a superhero after a while, has a role cut out perfectly for his fans. He looks handsome and impresses with his trendy mannerisms, dialogue delivery and action. If you love the superstar, here is a treat for you!

Dileep looks good, but he repeats most of his trademark comedy acts. Suresh Gopi is back with his 'branded' form, with all those fiery dialogues and guns, though he looks older and a bit tired. Sarath Kumar has perhaps the shortest role among the four heroes, but he makes his presence felt.

The heroines have nothing much to do, other than to look beautiful and support the heroes. Sai Kumar, Vijayaraghavan, Suresh Krishna, Biju Menon, Devan and Jagathy Sreekumar have done their job in a fine way. Salim Kumar and Harisree Asokan are okay in the comic department but Suraj Venjarammoodu hams it up in a big way.

Christian Brothers is a loud and high voltage thriller, for which you don't have to use your brains much. It could have definitely been more enjoyable if it was shorter by some twenty minutes or so, but even in the current form it could make you smile as the end credits start rolling. It's absolutely a 'no logic-popcorn fun' and perhaps not meant to be taken too seriously. Enjoy!
